SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking an Entry Level Chemist to provide scientific and technical support services to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Studies and analyses related to the development of security technologies.
  • Assisting in planning and execution of experiments/tests related to the science of explosives and weapons detection (physics/chemistry), including recording and analysis of data under substantial supervision.
  • Contributing to comprehensive technical reports, data reports and other publications.
  • Performing simple tasks with moderate supervision or from detailed DHS procedures.

Required Skills:

Has good written and oral communication skills and be able to write project documents with moderate supervision.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with X-ray and photon-matter interactions, including X-ray measurements including digital radiography, computed tomography, diffraction, incoherent scatter, fluorescence, and photon counting
  • Experience with analytical chromatography techniques
  • Experience with designing/modifying/building new scientific instrumentation, prototypes, and National Instruments, LabVIEW, etc.
  • Computational familiar with Gaussian, SIMION, etc.
  • Experience with the synthesis/formulation of explosives and/or other hazardous contraband materials.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to safely and quantitatively handle, mix and synthesize chemicals.
  • Experience in elemental composition analysis, including combustion/pyrolysis, and X-ray Fluorescence
  • Experience with Bulk and Trace Contraband Detection - including but not limited to experience with Advanced Technology (AT)( i.e., multiple angle projection radiography); single and dual energy computed tomography; photon counting radiography and tomography; rotating and fixed gantry EDS; Bottled liquid screening (multiple technologies); energy-dispersive and angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction; X-ray scatter; nuclear magnetic and quadrupole resonance; ion mobility spectrometry; and mass spectrometry.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in a science field (i.e., physics, chemistry) from an accredited college or university including studies in the areas of experimental or applied science (physics, chemistry) or related field.

MUST BE a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
