Position Summary

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Computational CFD Propulsion Research Scientist/Engineer who specializes in the science, engineering analysis, and operation of propulsion systems including gun, rocket, and air-breathing propulsion systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-fidelity, multiphase, reactive flow CFD modeling and simulation efforts to evaluate the dynamic combustion behavior and corresponding propulsion dynamics for gun, rocket, and air-breathing systems using established computer-aided engineering CFD software such as Ansys/Fluent and similar software packages
  • Perform analyses using simulation results to develop trends and insights of the physics governing the propulsion and combustion processes of gun, rocket, or air-breathing systems using engineering software such as MATLAB, Python, and similar tools
  • Investigate novel propulsion systems and subsystems using modeling and simulation
  • Develop approaches to improve combustion and propulsion systems using insights gained from modeling and simulation efforts. Support tasks are complex and require the application of advanced physics, combustion, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and engineering principles
  • Develop and simulate the high-fidelity, multiphase (e.g., 2-phase), reactive flow CFD of gun, rocket, air-breathing systems and corresponding subsystems and generate results to be used in postprocessing analyses
  • Develop numerical tools for the quick, cursory trade space analysis of prototype gun, rocket, air-breathing propulsion and combustion systems as they are developed during the R&D cycle
  • Use modeling and simulation to provide insight and diagnose nonintuitive or otherwise unanticipated experimental results from gun, rocket, and air-breathing propulsion and combustion system experiments
  • Develop and conduct simulations at ARL experimental facilities, other Government agencies, contractor sites, and academic sites
  • Research the elements of a combustion that occurs in gun, rocket, and air-breathing propulsion systems using high-fidelity, multiphase, reactive flow CFD modeling and simulation software

Qualifications

Physical sciences or engineering degree. Bachelors degree and 4 years of experience; masters degree and 2 years of experience; Ph.D. and 1 year of experience.

  • Experience executing basic and applied research to evaluate and characterize the propulsion and dynamic combustion behavior of novel gun, rocket, and air-breathing propulsion systems
  • Experience documenting numerical and analytical procedures, methods, results, and conclusions
  • Experience developing, running, and analyzing combustion processes found in gun, rocket, and/or air-breathing propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of combustion, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, continuum mechanics, CFD techniques, and numerical and analytical structural analysis methods and techniques

About Us

SURVICE Engineering is a nationally recognized, single-source engineering service provider for Government and Industry organizations involved in all phases of the systems engineering process. Our employees are our most valuable asset, and they are proud to have supported the development, testing, analysis, and modeling and simulation (M&S) of many of the major U.S. air, land, and sea combat systems in the field today. They have also contributed their expertise to other vital national defense programs and technologies that involve survivability, cybersecurity, information technology/ management, software engineering, unmanned aerial systems (UASs), and metrology/reverse engineering.
